The Aim of Instruction
(Ephesians 6:4; Psalm 78:1-7)

Right on the heels of Paul’s instruction to children to honor their father and their mother, the Lord leads Paul to express the weighty call for parents, especially fathers, to instruct and discipline their children in a way that honors the Lord and does not lead to roots of bitterness. Before we examine the practical ways to pursue this, we must first understand what the ultimate aim of this instruction from the Lord is really all about.
