Jesus: Our Defense Against Satan (Matthew 4:1-11)

(This week, Elder candidate Tom Neal filled the pulpit.)

In this passage, we see Jesus, the true God-man, resisting temptation and overcoming Satan’s plan for him to disobey God the Father and his Word. From this, we learn that Jesus is the second Adam who remained faithful to God when tempted and also the obedient Israel who trusted God in the wilderness during a time of testing. This gives us hope, for in Christ we have a perfect Savior who has overcome all temptation and sin, because we like Adam and Israel have failed, but Christ has won victory for his flock.
